Memorial Day Weekend Camping

When we decided to go camping for Memorial Day weekend, I didn’t think about the fact that everyone else might have the same idea. Oops! The campgrounds near home were full, so hubby gave me a 5 hour driving limit.

Now to search –

What I found was a KOA in Casey, Illinois. Casey – a town of fewer than 5,000 people. Casey – known for its world’s largest items.

The KOA in Casey is a small to medium operation with a stocked lake. A lake to fish in had been my husband’s one requirement. He didn’t care where we would be as long as he could go fishing.

Although it was Memorial Day weekend, the campground wasn’t full.

The individual campsites were level and shaded, and the lake was across the gravel campground road and past one row of campers. In other words, we could see the lake from our campsite.

It felt good to be cooking outside again on an open fire and eating meals at a picnic table.

The simple rowboats were rentable for the day at $12.00 from sun up to sun down. Hubby was ecstatic and even took one of our campground neighbor’s boys out on the lake to fish.

There was even time to play a couple rounds on the 9 hole mini golf course.

We enjoyed ourselves so much that we intend to go back there next Memorial Day weekend.

Happy camping.
